Couples Therapy

Couples therapy can help you increase intimacy and connection, improve communication, and better understand your partner. During your sessions, you can learn how to remove mental barriers that prevent you from achieving the strong relationship you most desire. My approach to couples therapy is foremost centered on compassion, empathy, and respect. I prioritize creating a safe, welcoming environment where you and your partner feel validated and understood.

Depending on you and your partner’s needs, I may either become an active participant in the conversation—providing suggestions, comments, and directions—or maintain a “fly on the wall” approach. In these instances, I will listen more than participate. My role may change during each session to make room for new insights and better address specific situations.

Communication

Improving communication is a key benefit of couples therapy. Learning how to express your emotional needs effectively and listen actively allows you to become a more compassionate partner.

During therapy sessions, we’ll identify the root of your communication struggles. We’ll also create strategies for overcoming these challenges as a team and building foundations for a loving partnership.

Intamacy

By developing better communication skills, you can increase your intimate connection and better understand the other person’s needs. Couples therapy can also help you remove barriers that may be preventing you from achieving the strong and healthy relationship you both desire.

Empathy

Couples therapy can help you and your partner better understand each other’s point of view. As a couples therapist, I can ask questions to learn more about how both perspectives tells the complete story.  By learning how to view a situation from your partner’s perspective, you can better validate their emotions and thought process.

Mental Health Conditions

Mental health conditions can present additional challenges to one–or both–partners in a romantic relationship. If you and your partner experience these challenges, having additional support can help you build a healthy, strong relationship.

If you or your partner have a mental health condition, both of you can benefit from additional support to build a healthy relationship. Some conditions can be situational, meaning you can resolve them with consistent therapeutic treatment for a certain period of time. Other conditions may benefit from developing a long-term care plan and healthy coping mechanisms.

Here are examples of mental health conditions I am able to diagnose and treat in therapy:

  • Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)

  • Postpartum Mood and Anxiety Disorder (PMAD)

  • Major Depression Disorder (MDD)

  • Postpartum Depression (PPD)

  • Adjustment Disorder

  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

  • Obsessive-compulsive Disorder (OCD)
